Gunmen Kidnap Two Catholic Priests In Niger State

In a distressing incident, two clergymen, Fr Paul Sanogo and Seminarian Melchior, serving at St Luke’s Catholic Church in Gyedna, Garam Ward, Niger State, were abducted by suspected bandits on Thursday, August 3.

According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen fired shots into the air for an extended period before kidnapping the priests.

The abduction has been confirmed by the Catholic Bishop of Minna, Most Rev Dr Martin Igwe Uzoukwu.

The Catholic Bishop of Minna, Most Reverend Martins Igwe Uzoukwu, confirmed the kidnapping in a statement distributed to all parishes in the state of Niger, urging the Catholic community to pray for the victims.

“On behalf of my Auxiliary Most Rev Sylvester Luka Gopep, the Priests and Religious of the Catholic Diocese of Minna. I request your prayers for Fr Paul Sanogo (M.Afr) and Seminarian Melchior who were kidnapped by bandits in the early hours of August 3, 2023 at the priest’s residence at Gyedna, Niger State,” the memo reads.
