Grammy Award-winning Drummer Jim Gordon Passes On 40 Years After Convicted Of Mum’s Murder

Jim Gordon, a Grammy-winning American drummer, has passed on in a California mental hospital, nearly 40 years after being jailed for killing his mum.

The American drummer, who co-wrote the “Layla” ballard with guitarist Eric Clapton, passed away of natural causes on Monday at the California Medical Facility in Vacaville, his publicist made this known on Tuesday, 14th of March, 2023.

He died at the age of 77.

His publicist revealed that the drummer died “after a long incarceration and lifelong battle with mental illness.”

The drummer was well known for his stints with some of rock’s biggest names in the 60s and 70s.

However, his career was marred by schizophrenia which resulted in the brutal stabbing murder of his mother on the 3rd of June, 1983.

Meanwhile, in 1993, while in prison, Gordon won a Grammy award for Best Rock Song for “Layla,” following the success of Clapton’s “Unplugged”, named Album of the Year.
