Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has voiced strong support for President Bola Tinubu’s tax reform legislation, asserting that those attacking the policy lack a proper grasp of its contents.
Otti noted that several components of the new tax framework echo positions he had articulated nearly a decade ago in his own writings on Nigeria’s fiscal direction. “Almost 10 years ago, I wrote about the fiscal side of things. When I read the new tax reform law, I saw many of those arguments reflected in it. I thank Prof. Oyedele. When people attack him, they don’t understand,” Otti stated.
His comments signal firm endorsement of the administration’s ongoing effort to overhaul the nation’s tax architecture. The reforms, led by the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee chaired by Professor Taiwo Oyedele, have generated widespread debate and mixed reactions.
While some stakeholders have voiced concerns about potential repercussions, Otti insisted the policy rests on solid fiscal logic. By referencing his own past contributions to economic discourse, the governor suggested the reforms are consistent with long-advocated strategies to enhance revenue generation and reinforce Nigeria’s economic fundamentals.
