Fuel Subsidy Removal: NLC And FG’s Meeting Ends In Deadlock

The meeting between the Federal Government and the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) to discuss the situation caused by the removal of fuel subsidy ended in a deadlock.

NNPC CEO, Mele Kyari, former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole, CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele, and President Bola Tinubu’s spokesperson, Dele Alake, represented the federal government at the meeting.

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) President, Festus Osifo, and NLC National President Joe Ajaero both spoke on behalf of organized labor.

It was gathered that the meeting got underway at around 4 p.m. at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

After several hours of meeting with the federal government, NLC insisted that before talks with the Federal Government could resume they must restore the status quo by capping the price of fuel.

Joe Ajaero, the national president of the Nigeria Labour Congress, decried the loss of the subsidy and stated that the NLC must defend the Nigerian workforce and give alternative options.

Dele Alake, the spokeswoman for the president, claimed the meeting was “robust.” He continued by saying that talks are still ongoing between the two parties and that the federal government is optimistic that a fair agreement will soon be reached.
