‘French Oscars’ Ban Nominees Accused Of Sexual Assault, Fear Of Protest Surfaces

The most prestigious film awards, Cesar Awards, has banned nominees accused of sexual assault from attending its ceremony in February, 2023.

It was gathered on Tuesday that the organisers of the Oscar award event which has been dubbed the ‘French Oscars’ declared that any individual/nominees being investigated by the police on allegations of sexual misconduct will be barred from its event.

According to a statement issued out by the Academy for anyone facing a potential prison sentence for “violence, notably of (a) sexual or sexist nature” would be excluded from the coming ceremony. “It has been decided not to highlight people who may have been put in question by the judiciary for acts of violence.” Adding that the step was being taken “out of respect for the victims”, even if they were only “presumed” victims.

It was recalled that there had been fears of staging protests at the event on 25the of February, 2023 after it was disclosed that the fast rising Sofiane Bennacer was being investigated by police on two allegations of rape and one of violence they melted against him.

Bennacer, of 25 years old who denies any wrongdoing, had been nominated in the Revelation category of the 2023 Oscar award.
