Former Vice Chairman Arrested For Alleged Murder Of Lover In Delta State

The Delta State Police Command has apprehended Austin Ejovwo, a former vice chairman of Okolor Inland community, Udu Local Government Area of the state, who is accused of murdering his lover, Felicia Akpomeria. DSP Bright Edafe, spokesperson for the command, confirmed that the suspect was captured at a hideout in Ologbo community, Edo State on Monday, June 19, 2023.

The tragic incident unfolded when Felicia, a 45-year-old mother of four, was discovered dead in her lover’s bedroom apartment, lying in a pool of blood from machete wounds on Friday. Ejovwo had fled the scene, leaving the community in shock.

According to sources close to the family, Ejovwo and Felicia had been involved in a romantic relationship for over a year. The gruesome discovery of Felicia’s body led to heightened tension between Ubogo, the victim’s community, and Okolor Inland, the suspect’s community, as enraged youths prepared for a confrontation.

Expressing some relief at the arrest, Godwin Laya, a relative of the victim, thanked the police for their swift action and called on the government to ensure that justice is served. He emphasized that Felicia’s life should not be in vain.

Laya went on to recount the events leading up to Felicia’s murder, stating that she was lured to Okolor by her lover. He further explained that after receiving a call on Friday afternoon informing them of the incident, he and others immediately rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered that the police from Ovwian had already removed Felicia’s corpse in an ambulance and were subsequently invited to the station to provide statements.

Disturbing details emerged from the scene, as Laya described the sight of fetish and idol-worshipping items scattered on the floor of Ejovwo’s room. Felicia’s lifeless body, unclothed and bearing multiple machete wounds to her head and chest, was found in a corner. It remains unclear if any organs were removed due to the extensive blood coverage.

Another family member revealed that Felicia’s daughter informed them that Ejovwo owed her mother over N300,000 (Nigerian Naira) and that she had called him to demand repayment. After numerous unsuccessful attempts to reach him, Ejovwo allegedly called Felicia on Thursday evening, instructing her to meet him later that night. The family had no knowledge of his sinister intentions.

As the investigation continues, the community demands justice for Felicia’s untimely demise. The Delta State Police Command is expected to conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged murder, ensuring that the perpetrator faces the full weight of the law.
