Former President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to Nigeria after defending the country before the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Paris in connection with the $2.3 billion arbitration case filed by Sunrise Power.
Sunrise Power had filed a lawsuit accusing the Nigerian government of breaching its contractual obligations related to the Mambilla Hydropower Project, a major infrastructure initiative aimed at boosting the country’s energy capacity.
Buhari, who oversaw key phases of the Mambilla project during his administration, has defended the government’s actions, asserting that decisions were made with the nation’s best interests in mind and rejecting any allegations of misconduct.
The arbitration stems from Sunrise Power’s claims that it was excluded from the execution of the project, despite an established and longstanding agreement.
Buhari’s arrival in the country after his defence in Paris was disclosed via a video shared by his Special Assistant on Digital Communications, Bashir Ahmad, on Friday, 24th of January 24.
