Former FCC Officer Admits Accepting Bribes and Indicts Chairman

A former officer responsible for the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) at the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Haruna Kolo, has admitted to receiving bribes from job seekers in exchange for employment opportunities.

As events unfolds during an ongoing investigation by the House of Representatives ad hoc committee, Kolo also implicated the Chairman of the FCC in the bribery scandal.

Kolo revealed that he had collected over N75 million from desperate job seekers on the instructions of the FCC Chairman. He further disclosed that the chairman instructed him to transfer the funds to his personal account and make cash payments, which he did multiple times at the chairman’s house.

During his testimony, Kolo shared that he had resigned from the FCC on November 2, 2022, to join the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).

However, he continued to receive salaries from the FCC, indicating a discrepancy.

This anomaly was reported to the Human Resource Officer, who assured Kolo that the issue would be addressed.

Kolo’s revelations shed light on a complex web of corruption and nepotism within the FCC. He stated, “When she came to FCC as the Executive Chairman, she appointed me as a protocol officer and I carried out my duty diligently.”

Kolo described how the chairman’s involvement extended to employment processes. “Shehu is the one that brought those who paid money to my account for jobs, some paid N1 million, others N1.5 million, all to my personal Ecobank account. She asked me to give cash to her, which I did through POS. So, there is no evidence of transfer or anything.”
