Former CBN Governor, Emefiele To Be Arraigned In Court Monday

Godwin Emefile, the former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, April 8, 2024.

Emiefele will be facing accusations before the Ikeja State High Court in Lagos, together with his co-defendant, Henry Isioma Omole.

Emefiele is accused by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of misusing his position and supervising the distribution of billions of US dollars without following the correct protocols.

According to the EFCC, Emefiele ordered the unjustified allocation of $2,136,391,737.33 in foreign exchange between 2022 and 2023. He also allegedly ordered similar activities totaling $291,945,785.59 between 2020 and 2021 and $1,769,254,793.16 in 2021 alone. Nigerian nationals are alleged to have suffered as a result of these activities.

Emefiele’s co-defendant Omole is also implicated in one of the counts; Omole reportedly got $110,000 as payment for Emefiele’s assistance in organizing the distribution of foreign exchange.
