Ogbonnaya Onu, a former governor of Abia state, has passed away.
It was learned this morning that Onu passed away at an Abuja hospital via family sources.
This 71-year-old politician, teacher, and scientist was trained in the United States.
Ogbonnaya Onu was a lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt before he ventured into national politics during the abortive transition to civilian administration of former president Ibrahim Babangida from 1991 to 1993,
After winning the governorship in 1992, he held office until 1994, when the late Sani Abacha toppled Ernest Shonekan’s government.
Onu continued his political career and attempted several presidential elections.
He resigned his position as the Buhari led administration’s minister of science and technology in order to run in the 2022 presidential primary. [CONTINUE READING HERE]
