Flood: Government Meets Transport Unions, Regulates T-Fare In Bayelsa State

The government of Bayelsa State has met with transportation unions in the state for a reduction in transportation fares which has been agreed on.

According to an announcement made known today, Wednesday by the government the state Commissioner of Transport, Grace Ekiotenne, held a meeting with members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria and Tricycle Owners Of Nigeria, on Monday, where the decision to reduce the fares was taken.

It was gathered that transport operators had hiked t-fares following the flood which ravaged most parts of the Bayelsa state.

“Arising from a crucial meeting convened by the Honourable Commissioner for Transport with members if the three (3) Gazetted Transport Unions 9NURTW, RTEAN, TOAN) held on Monday, 14th November, 2022, to look into the hike in transportation fare occasioned by the recent unprecedented flood that ravaged the entire State: it was resolved at the meeting that going forward, Tricycles operators should charge their passengers fifty Naira (N50) only for short distances and one hundred Naira (N100) for long distances.” the statement signed by the state commissioner reads partly.
