A severe flood has ravaged several communities in Gumi and Bukkuyum local government areas of Zamfara state, leaving many people homeless and displaced.
The disaster which occurred due to heavy rainfall submerged large areas of farmland, houses, and shops.
This was disclosed in a post on NEMA Official X handle on Monday, 19th of August, 2024.
The post reads:
“NEMA, Sokoto Operations Office SOO conducted an on-the-spot assessment of several communities that were severely affected by the flood.
“The flood which rendered many people homeless was a result of heavy rainfall that fell throughout the night of 15th to 16th of August, 2024.
“The Disaster happened across several communities at the same time and submerged large hectares of farmlands, houses and shops.
“Many houses were destroyed, many walls fell and others were inundated by flooded waters.
“The overwhelming impact of the incident has created a serious humanitarian situation in the axis, with many people displaced and currently taking shelter with their relatives and neighbours.
“The assessment exercise was conducted in conjunction with Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency, Red Cross, local government council representatives and security operatives.” [CONTINUE READING HERE]>>>>>>
