In commemoration of the World Rural Development Day 2025, with the theme “Rural Development: Resilience to Global Change,” First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has highlighted the critical role of rural communities in national development.
In a statement she personally signed, Tinubu emphasised that rural areas form the “bedrock upon which lasting national development is built.”
She stressed the urgent need to empower rural populations to effectively adapt and thrive amidst the escalating challenges of climate change, economic uncertainty, and pervasive communal conflicts.
The statement reads:
“Today, on World Rural Development Day 2025, with the theme “Rural Development: Resilience to Global Change,” speaks aptly to the heart of the challenges faced by the nations of the World.
“Rural communities are the bedrock upon which lasting national development is built. Therefore, we need to empower our rural populations to adapt and thrive in the face of the growing challenges of climate change, economic uncertainty, and communal conflicts.
“Let us work together to ensure that no community is left behind as we build a stronger, more resilient Nigeria.
