Football is emulating tennis and cricket by testing a new challenge system that gives managers the ability to raise their finger to start a video review of a call made by the referee.
FIFA has already performed the initial testing of Football Video Support (FVS), which is being referred to as a simpler alternative to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in Zurich.
Teams are only permitted to challenge for two times in a game for events like goals, penalties, red cards, and cases of mistaken identification. As in other sports, they would keep that review if they prevail in their appeal.
Managers describe what they would want the referee at the pitch-side monitor to assess after spinning their finger and passing a card to the fourth official to start the challenge. Although players can suggest a review, their coach has the last say.
Less than a week has passed since it was announced that Premier League teams would vote next month on whether to abandon VARβa decision that was spurred by Wolvesβto adopt the FVS system.
Originally intended for contests without the capacity to employ VARβwhich necessitates numerous cameras and officialsβFVS was created.
