Odidi Princewill, a host of the Nigerian National Conversation and social-political commentator, has taken to his social media handle to berate the Federal Government over its move to spend N5.9b to train youths on smart phone repairs.
The author and social media commentator, urged the government to channel such funds to establish a few fully equipped smartphone manufacturing companies, or fund engineering departments in Nigerian tertiary institutions instead.
He wrote:
“Federal government spends 5.9 billion Naira to train youths on smart phone repairs. Unimaginable! This same amount is sufficient to establish 3to 5 fully equipped smart phone manufacturing companies.
“You can imagine how our clueless leaders reason. Dig deep you will be amazed how many people were even trained. 5.9 billion to train for phone repairs. What is the budget of engineering departments in universities?
“While China invest in engineering in her schools for kids to build small industrial complexes, our leaders invest billions to train artisans who will never be empowered. 5.9 billion!
“We have a leadership that does not think. Politics has really underdeveloped Africa” he added
