FG committed to reducing flood impact in Kebbi state – Finance Minister, Wale Edun

Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, has emphasised that the federal government is committed to reducing the impact of floods posing significant risks to agricultural productivity in Kebbi state.

He said this during his tour of WACOT Rice Limited, a state-of-the-art rice processing facility in Arugungu, the axis of the State.

This was made known via a post shared on the Federal Ministry of Finance’s official X handle on Monday, 26th of August, 2024.

The statement reads:

“The Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has conducted an official visit to Kebbi State, underscoring President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to strengthening local economies and confronting the challenges posed by natural disasters.

“During the visit, HM Edun, accompanied by HE Comrade #NasiridrisKG the Executive Governor of Kebbi State, and the Honourable Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator #atikuabagudu, toured WACOT Rice Limited, a state-of-the-art rice processing facility located in Argungu. With an impressive annual milling capacity of 120,000 metric tons, this facility plays a crucial role in supporting thousands of farmers through an extensive procurement network and 8000 strong out-grower farming programs. Its contributions are vital in boosting local rice production and driving economic growth in the region.

“In addition to the facility tour, the Honourable Minister visited a rice farm currently grappling with the adverse effects of ongoing flooding, which poses significant risks to agricultural productivity in the region.

“HM Edun reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to mitigating the impact of these floods, emphasizing the recent proactive measures facilitated by the National Economic Council (NEC) and HE Idris, which allocated N3 billion each to the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. These funds are aimed at combating, mitigating, and preparing for the effects of flooding during the 2024 rainy season, with a focus on supporting local farmers and safeguarding the agricultural sector.
