The Federal Executive Council has approved road and bridge projects valued at approximately ₦1.2 trillion across the country.
The Minister of Works, David Umahi, disclosed this during a briefing with journalists at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday after the council meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu.
Umahi said the council approved the reconstruction of the 103-kilometre Ibadan–Ife–Ilesa Road as a dual carriageway at a cost of ₦427 billion. The project was re-awarded following minimal progress by the previous contractor.
The council also approved the review and redesign of the 132-kilometre Kano–Kongolam Road into a three-lane concrete carriageway valued at ₦334 billion. The road links Kano, Jigawa, and Katsina states and will include solar-powered streetlights and CCTV installations.
In addition, FEC approved Phase Two rehabilitation of the 129.3-kilometre Keffi–Nasarawa–Abaji Road at ₦203 billion, as well as the completion of the remaining 71 kilometres of the Suleja–Minna dual carriageway project at ₦91 billion.
For Lagos, the council approved ₦5.6 billion for the detailed design and preparatory works for the demolition and reconstruction of Carter Bridge, with the design contract awarded to Advanced Engineering Consultants.
The council further approved ₦146 billion for the reconstruction of an 86-kilometre section of the Abuja–Lokoja Road, with different contractors handling the segments.
Umahi said the projects are part of efforts to improve critical infrastructure, enhance road safety, and support economic activities nationwide.
