Federal Govt did not consult us before deciding on telecom tarrif rate hike —NLC claims

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero, has disclosed the the Federal Government did not consult them before they decided on the increase in the telecommunications tariff rate.

Ajaero, further claimed that overtime the federal government has one way or another excluded them, even during the increase in electricity tarrif.

The union leader claimed that lack of consultation with the Union is one of the major challenge they have with the federal government.

He said this during an interview he had with Channels TV’s ‘Politics Today’, on Tuesday, 4th of February 2025.

He said:

“Before we started, that was the main point we tried to drive home, the issue of consultation. If you watch, it was emphatic that NLC is one of the single largest organisations in the whole of Africa and there’s no consultation that would have excluded us that we were going to allow to pass through.

” However, they started with a clear apology for the lack of consultation, and this is not the first time in everything they do, even in the tarrif increase in the power sector and all that, they do it without recourse to stakeholders and consultation.

” And we equally tried to drive it home before them that even when we renegotiated minimum wage, the centre of it was ability to pay government tried to insist on their ability to pay even tho what we were demanding was so high.

“That issue of ability to pay must come to play here you know that we Nigerians don’t have the ability to pay the tarrif they’re increasing, and I think these are some of the issues that came up in that meeting ” [CONTINUE READING HERE]>>>>>
