The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, has unveiled a partnership between the Federal Government and Femadec Energy to establish Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion centers and refueling stations across 20 federal tertiary institutions nationwide.
The project will be funded through the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF).
In a statement on Tuesday, 18th of March 2025 shared via his official X page, the Minister detailed his recent meeting with Vice Chancellors (VCs) of the selected institutions, executives from Femadec Energy, MDGIF, and the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI).
During the meeting, they discussed the project’s progress and finalized plans to ensure its sustainability and timely implementation by May 2025.
This initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s commitment to promoting affordable, clean, and sustainable energy solutions.
It aims to reduce transportation costs for students and lecturers while integrating eco-friendly energy solutions within educational institutions.
Alausa’s statement reads:
“In line with President #officialABAT, commitment to affordable, clean, and sustainable energy, the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF), in collaboration with Femadec Energy, is set to establish Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion centres and refuelling stations across 20 federal tertiary institutions nationwide.
“I recently held a meeting with the Vice Chancellor’s (VC) of the selected institutions, executives from Femadec Energy, MDGIF, and the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI) to discuss the projects progression and finalise details to ensure its sustainability and timely implementation by May 2025.
“This initiative not only aims to reduce transportation costs for our students and lecturers but also represents a pivotal step towards integrating clean energy solutions within our educational institutions.
“By introducing #CNG infrastructure, the government aims to provide cost-effective and environmentally friendly transportation options, fostering a culture of innovation and sustainability among the academic community.
