A man known only as Amas, a father of two, passed away while working on a high tension pole yesterday in Ekeki village in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
The incident took place on Azikoro Road, close to the Police Divisional Headquarters, it was learned.
The deceased, a resident of the area but not an employee of Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), was reportedly on the pole connecting some clients to the national grid just before he was electrocuted.
Locals claimed that because of the state’s inadequate power supply, most residents favored a federal line that guarantees a daily power supply of twelve to thirteen hours.
Before PHCN personnel arrived to save him, the deceased, who was from the state’s Nembe Local Government Area, was reportedly trapped on the pole for hours. But he had given up the ghost before they even got to the location.
A resident of Azikoro road, Micheal Orubo, who claimed to have witnessed the incident, described the deceased as an easy going person who did electrical work to care for his family.
He said: “Amas lived on our street, and he did most of the connection work in this area. It is unfortunate that death came to him in such a manner. He just left us where we were playing a chess game, and said he was coming back but never returned.
“He was an easy going man. Who will take care of the two kids he has left behind? The money he got from these electric connections was what he usually managed to feed his family. What manner of death is this? [CONTINUE READING HERE]
