Ex-FCE Provost Abducted With Wife And Driver In Ogun State

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers struck on Tuesday, abducting the immediate past Provost of the Federal College of Education, Osile, Abeokuta, Dr. Ayodele Ajayi, along with his wife and driver.

The incident occurred around 7:17 pm at Ikija village, Olodo axis of the Abeokuta-Ibadan road in Odeda Local Government, Ogun State.

According to reports, Dr. Ayodele Ajayi was seized by the abductors while he was on his way with his wife and driver. The gunmen, who emerged from the bushes, launched an attack on Ajayi and other motorists in the vicinity. They fired shots into the air and subsequently blocked the road before taking their victims away.

Fortunately, Ajayi’s wife was later released by the abductors, but he and his driver remain in captivity. This incident adds to the growing concern over kidnapping activities in the Olodo axis of the Abeokuta-Ibadan road. A resident of the area, speaking on condition of anonymity, disclosed that at least five people had been kidnapped in the area in the past week alone.

The situation has become alarming, with instances of abduction becoming more frequent. The source further mentioned that last month, three individuals were killed in the area, including a prominent businessman known for operating a large farm along the same axis.

The recent kidnapping attempt on the Olu of Odeda, Oba David Olorunisola, was also highlighted, where his driver was shot, and the Oba narrowly escaped abduction. He is currently receiving medical treatment at the Federal Medical Centre.

The residents are pleading for immediate government intervention and increased security measures to address the rising insecurity in the region. They fear for their safety and the well-being of their community members and urge law enforcement agencies to be more proactive in protecting citizens.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Omolola Odutola, assured the public that the police and other security operatives are actively pursuing the abductors.
