Everybody coming to SDP knows I will run for presidency in 2027 — Adebayo

Adewole Adebayo, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, has revealed his plans to run for the presidency once again in 2027 under the same party.

According to Adebayo, regardless of the status of any political figure just joining the party, he would still remain the party’s flagbearer in the next election.

Reacting to concerns about prominent politicians joining the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adebayo, confidently stated that he is not intimidated by the influx of high-profile defectors.

His comments follows the defection of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to the SDP following his vocal criticisms of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his resignation from the ruling party.

El-Rufai, now with SDP, has been actively courting political allies to join him in his new political home.

Despite these developments, Adebayo emphasised that he remains undeterred, asserting that he is not threatened by the recent arrivals.

He made it clear that all members of the party are aware of his intentions to run for president again in 2027, reinforcing his unwavering commitment to leading the SDP.

He said:

“Let us understand something. I don’t worry about that; everybody who is coming in knows I will run in 2027.

“Any coward who will feel threatened by people coming to his party can not be president.

“I’m in my party, he’s coming to join me in my party. When you come to my party, you’re coming to learn from us the SDP way, you might know politics elsewhere, but you’re coming as an ordinary member.
