A suspected fraudster, identified as Nnamani Joseph “m,” 45, has been apprehended by police operatives at Ogui Police Division of the Enugu State Command.
He allegedly planned to steal eighteen (18) bags of rice worth approximately four hundred thousand Naira (N400,000.00) from a businessman by pretending to purchase the rice and use it for charity at a church.
According to a statement made public by the command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, on February 14, 2024—Valentine’s Day—Nnamani visited the grounds of a church in Ogui, Enugu (name withheld), from which he called a businessman in the area (names withheld), claiming to want to donate eighteen (18) pieces of 25 kg bags of rice.
‘’The businessman accordingly supplied the rice and unsuspectingly followed Nnamani to the bank to receive his payment through bank transfer. But in the course of effecting the payment, Nnamani secretly left the bank, went back to the church, and made away with the bags of rice to an unknown destination.”
However, Ndukwe added, the culprit was unable to flee or hide for very long since, after getting the complaint, Police Operatives launched an intelligence-driven investigation that resulted in his arrest on February 20, 2024, in Enene, Enugu. After he re-bagged and sold the remaining eight (8) of the eighteen (18) 25 kg bags of rice at Oye Enene Market in Enugu, the rice was recovered from him.
Ndukwe also stated that after the investigations are finished, the suspect and his allies will appear in court. [CONTINUE READING HERE]
