The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA has disclosed that its search and rescue unit in the North West zonal office has rescued five individuals alive from a accident involving a trailer carrying a full load of coal.
It was gathered that the trailer was traveling from Kogi State to Sokoto State when the accident occurred.
This was made known in a post on X by agency on Sunday, 19th of may, 2024.
The post reads:
“On the 18th May 2024, the search and rescue unit of NEMA Northwest Zonal Office in collaboration with relevant stakeholders including the Federal Road Safety Corps, police, and KASTLEA, responded to a distress call regarding a ghastly accident involving a lone trailer carrying a full load of coal.
“The incident occurred at the pedestrian bridge near Sultan Bello Mosque, Ungwan Sarki. The trailer was said to be travelling from Kogi State to Sokoto State.
“The driver of the trailer lost control of the vehicle, presumably due to negligence or road conditions, and failed to notice the road division under the pedestrian bridge.
“Consequently, the trailer collided directly with a bridge pillar, resulting in significant damage to the vehicle and the spillage of its contents onto the road.
“Joint efforts by stakeholders were undertaken to assess the situation, provide assistance, and manage the aftermath of the accident. Five individuals were successfully rescued alive.” [CONTINUE READING HERE]>>>>
