The Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on election security met at the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC headquarters in Abuja Federal Capital Territory in preparation for the upcoming governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections.
The electoral commission revealed this via it twitter handle where it also shared photos from the meeting.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, in a statement, called on the political parties to persuade their supporters not to engage in violence during and after the governorship and state assembly elections.
The statement reads, “The Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security meeting gets underway at the INEC HQ, Abuja. The Governorship/State Houses of Assembly elections, scheduled for 18th March, is on the agenda.
“INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu implores political parties, candidates and their supporters to see election as a contest, not war and ‘refrain from acts of violence that may mar the elections or compromise the security of our personnel, observers , the media and service providers’.”
