Ekiti Gov’t signs agreement with NAMA for Air Traffic Services at Ekiti Airport

The Ekiti state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) to ensure the seamless launch of the newly established Ekiti State Agro-Allied International Airport in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

The Ekiti State Agro-Allied International Airport was inaugurated for public use shortly after the first aircraft landed at the facility in October 2022.

However, the agreement signed at NAMA’s headquarters in Lagos is aimed at facilitating the deployment of key NAMA professionals to the airport.

This was revealed via a post shared on the X handle of the State Government on Monday, 26th of August 2024.

The post reads:

“To ensure the seamless launch of the newly established Ekiti State Agro-Allied International Airport in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA). The agreement, signed at NAMA’s headquarters in Lagos, will facilitate the deployment of key NAMA professionals to the airport, marking a significant step towards its operational readiness.

“In his opening remarks, NAMA’s Managing Director, Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, represented by NAMA’s Director of Legal Services and Company Secretary, Mrs Isemiuhonmon Rita Egbadon, highlighted the importance of the MoU as a mutual commitment to excellence, outlining joint responsibilities and standards for air traffic control services. Engr. Umar emphasised that the MoU symbolises action, cooperation, and a shared vision to uphold the highest standards of quality and performance in aviation.

“Representing Ekiti State Governor, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Habibat Adubiaro described the event as a pivotal moment for Ekiti State as it enhances the safety, efficiency, and reliability of its airspace management. Dr. Adubiaro expressed optimism that the airport would boost tourism, facilitate smoother air travel, and contribute significantly to economic growth, job creation, and improved connectivity for the people of Ekiti State.

“Ekiti State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Kehinde Ajobiewe, commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his dedication to the timely commencement of the airport’s commercial operations, noting that the MoU signing was a key step towards achieving full certification.
