The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared eight persons wanted over their alleged involvement in a major fraud linked to the Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX) platform.
The suspects-Seyi Oloyede, Emmanuel Uko, Adefowora Oluwanisola, Adefowora Abiodun Olaonipekun, Johnson Okiroh Otieno, Israel Mbaluka, Joseph Michiro and Serah Michiro- were accused of defrauding numerous investors through the cryptocurrency platform.
A statement on Friday by EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale said the Commission is intensifying efforts to crack down on financial crimes within the digital currency space, describing the sector as increasingly vulnerable to exploitation.
According to investigators, Oloyede, Uko, Otieno, Mbaluka, Joseph and Serah, were last traced to 166 Idimu Egbeda Road, Lagos, while Oluwanisola and Olaonipekun were previously located at 13 Jimoh Odutola, Ogungpa, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The EFCC is appealing to the public for information on the whereabouts of the suspects and urged citizens to report any leads to its offices in Ibadan, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt, or Abuja.
This announcement comes shortly after Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja granted the EFCC’s request to arrest and detain six individuals linked to the CBEX fraud scheme, reportedly involving over $1 billion.
