The Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS Community Court of Justice has found the Nigerian government guilty of human rights violations in its handling of the #EndSARS protests that struck in October 2020.
In a ruling on Wednesday, 10th of July, 2024, the court determined that the Nigerian government’s actions, particularly the excessive use of force at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos, violated multiple international human rights standards.
These violations include breaches of articles 1, 5, 6, 9, 10, and 11 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
The court has ordered the Nigerian government to pay N2 million in compensation to each victim named in the suit. [CONTINUE READING HERE]>>>>
