The Department of State Services (DSS) has refuted claims that the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, is under their custody.
Following Emefiele’s suspension by President Bola Tinubu, reports of his arrest began circulating, fueling speculation about his whereabouts.
Emefiele’s suspension came as part of an ongoing investigation into his office and the planned reforms in Nigeria’s financial sector. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, announced the suspension and revealed that the decision was made in light of the ongoing probe.
Simultaneously, President Tinubu appointed Mr. Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi as the acting Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria to fill the vacancy left by Emefiele’s suspension.
However, the DSS took to Twitter to clarify that Emefiele is not currently in their custody. The agency’s tweet stated, “Currently, Emefiele is not with the DSS.”
As of now, the whereabouts of the ousted CBN Governor remain unknown, adding to the mystery surrounding his situation. Further developments in this matter are awaited, and concerned individuals are eager to learn more about the ongoing investigation and the fate of Godwin Emefiele.
