The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, has emphasized the indispensable role of retired military personnel in driving the nation’s development. He described veterans as a crucial national asset whose extensive experience, discipline, and specialized skills remain vital long after their active service.
In a social media video address, the former Chief of Defence Staff advocated for the structured reintegration of veterans into the nation’s fabric. He proposed their inclusion through board appointments, advisory positions, and strategic roles within the security sector.
General Musa argued that the unique expertise veterans have accumulated over decades of service makes them exceptionally qualified to help fortify Nigeria’s security framework and contribute to governance and development initiatives. He revealed that ongoing deliberations focus on effectively harnessing their capabilities in strategic roles.
He further noted that leveraging their post-service contributions could provide critical support in tackling modern challenges, particularly the nation’s complex security issues.
The minister’s statements reflect the Ministry of Defence’s wider initiative to honor veterans’ service and formally integrate their knowledge, especially within Nigeria’s current demanding security landscape.
