Court Summons EFCC Chairman Over Yahaya Bello

Ola Olukoyede, the head of the EFCC, ordered by the Kogi State High Court in Lokoja on Friday to appear before the court on May 13 to explain why he shouldn’t go to jail for allegedly breaching the order.

The order was issued by Judge I.A. Jamil in a decision pertaining to a complaint filed before him by former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, with the case number HCL/68M/2024.

In an attempt to avert his arraignment and trial on N80 billion money laundering accusations brought against him following his officeĀ as governor in January, Mr. Bello filed a motion to start a contempt case against the head of the EFCC.

In his motion, Mr. Bello charged Mr. Olukoyede with contempt for allegedly disobeying the court’s order, which, he said, prevented the EFCC from arresting him.

Mr. Bello was recently accused by the EFCC of money laundering over N80 billion at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

However, because he has not been in court, the anti-graft agency has not been able to charge him.

When the commission officials tried to execute an arrest warrant against Mr. Bello at his Abuja apartment on February 17, he was able to escapeĀ being taken into custody. [CONTINUE READING HERE]
