Bashir Ahmad, the Special Assistant on Digital Communications to President Muhammadu Buhari, has responded to former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s comment about the collation of the 2023 presidential election.
In a statement issued by Obasanjo on Monday, he alleged that INEC officials at the operational level had been compromised, and called for a rerun election in areas affected by violence.
In response, Bashir Ahmed asserted that President Buhari would not intervene in the electoral process of the country halfway. He emphasized that Buhari would always ensure that the electoral institution works independently, without interference.
He wrote: “So Chief Olusegun Obasanjo wants President Muhammadu Buhari to interfere with our electoral process halfway. The President will never do that. He always allows such institutions to work, independently”
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has labeled former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s recent comments as deceitful and hypocritical.
Dele Alake, the Special Adviser on Media, Communications, and Public Affairs for the APC PCC, stated that Obasanjo’s call for the cancellation of the presidential election lacked evidence and was unfounded.
Alake further expressed disappointment in Obasanjo, who, as a statesman, should have exhibited dignified behavior and language, but instead chose to recklessly jeopardize Nigeria’s democratic process for his own selfish and malicious motives.
