In a fortunate turn of events, a Nigerian Air Force FT-7NI trainer aircraft crashed today, 14 July 2023, at approximately 4.15pm during a routine training exercise. However, both pilots on board managed to escape unharmed by promptly ejecting from the aircraft.
Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, confirmed the incident on Friday, assuring that there were no casualties or damage to any property in the vicinity of the crash site.
Following the incident, the two pilots were immediately transported to the NAF Base Hospital in Makurdi, where they are currently being observed and receiving medical attention.
The swift response ensured their well-being and underscored the effectiveness of the Nigerian Air Force’s safety protocols.
To ascertain the exact cause of the crash, Air Vice Marshal Hasan Abubakar, the Chief of Air Staff, has set up a Board of Inquiry.
The investigative team will delve into both the immediate and remote factors that contributed to the accident. Their findings will play a crucial role in preventing similar incidents and further enhancing the safety measures of the Nigerian Air Force.
