Muhammad Sanusi Barkindo, the Secretary General of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, is dead.
Barkindo reportedly died in the late hour of Tuesday, 5th of July, 2022. He died about 11pm on Tuesday night.
NNPC GMD, Mele Kyari announced his death via Twitter handle in the early hours of Wednesday, today 6th of July, 2022.
According to Kyari tweet, “We lost our esteemed Dr Muhammad Sanusi Barkindo. He died at about 11pm yesterday 5th July 2022. Certainly a great loss to his immediate family, the NNPC, our country Nigeria, the OPEC and the global energy community. Burial arrangements will be announced shortly.”
Buhari, the Nigerian President received him at the state house on Tuesday describing him as a worthy ambassador of the country.
Barkindo, the OPEC Secretary General tenure in office was to end this month end, on the 31st of July, 2022.
