BREAKING! Ex-Minister, Agunloye Released by EFCC On Bail


The anti-graft agency, EFCC, has released former Power and Steel Minister Olu Agunloye on bail today.

Freshreporters News earlier reported that Agunloye was detained on December 13 for alleged financial wrongdoing and forgery totaling N6 billion related to the Mambilla Power Project.

However, The Punch says the former Defense Minister was freed by the EFCC around 3:30 pm Wednesday to his lawyer, Adeola Adedipe.

EFCC sources say Agunloye will face court charges of corruption and forgery in January 2024, totaling N6 billion.

EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed the release to the newspaper: “Yes, Mr. Agunloye has indeed been released by the commission.”

Recall that Agunloye was declared wanted for an alleged N6 billion scam involving the Mambilla hydropower project.

He was re-arrested by the agency on December 13, 2023, after obtaining an arrest warrant due to allegations he jumped bail.

Agunloye served under former President Obasanjo (1999-2003) and has been at the center of the Mambilla project controversy.
