Two people who were known to be specialists in improvised explosive devices (IEDs)—13-year-old Bana Modu and 19-year-old Abubakar Mohammed (also known as Garba), surrender their weapons to Sector 3 of the MNJTF in Monguno.
The surrender, which occurred on April 21, 2024, was a significant victory in the continuing effort to eliminate Boko Haram’s activities in the area.
Mohammed and Modu claimed that they had received instructions to place IEDs along the Doron Baga and Fish Dam routes in Baga, Kukawa Local Government, Borno State. Rather than completing their goal, they made the decision to give up, flee with the IEDs, and turn themselves in to the MNJTF.
The recently ended non-kinetic Operation NASHRUL SALAM by the MNJTF and the sector’s personal interaction approach with pertinent sources, which demonstrated the efficacy of psychological operations in counterterrorism, had an impact on their choice.
