Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra state has urged his fellow governors from other states to be more sensitive to the current economic situation in the country and reduce the size of their convoys following the removal of fuel subsidy.
He made these remarks while addressing journalists after the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima in Abuja on Thursday.
During his statement, Governor Soludo emphasized the need for leaders to live within the average means of the people they are governing and cut down on wasteful expenditures.
He pointed out that it would be insensitive for governors to continue moving around with large convoys, especially in the light of the fuel subsidy removal.
Soludo mentioned that some discussions took place among the governors and members of the council regarding making sacrifices for the welfare of the people.
He cited examples of measures taken in his state, Anambra, to cut costs. One such example was the reduction in the monthly expenditure for cleaning up public offices, which decreased from N137 million to N11 million.
The NEC meeting, which included the 36 state governors, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and other government officials, addressed various economic matters and the need for prudent financial management during the prevailing economic circumstances. [CONTINUE READING HERE]>>>
