The Bayelsa State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Elizabeth Bidei, has passed away.
Mrs. Bidei d+ed on the morning of Monday, 30th of December 2024, following a prolonged battle with breast cancer. Her health reportedly worsened after she suffered a str@ke and a heart att+ck, according to Sahara Reporters.
In a statement issued by Mrs. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, Commissioner for Information, Orientation, and Strategy, the news of Mrs. Bidei’s passing was described as a devastating shock to Governor Douye Diri and the state executive council.
“Our hearts go out to the bereaved family, especially her husband, Chief Jackson Bidei, and their children. Our prayers are with the family during this profoundly sorrowful time of loss,” the statement read.
The state government highlighted Mrs. Bidei’s immense contributions as a dedicated public servant and advocate for women’s empowerment.
“As we mourn Mrs. Bidei, we will deeply miss her passion and tireless efforts to improve the welfare of women in Bayelsa State. Her work and commitment to creating a positive impact will remain etched in our memories,” the statement continued.
The government emphasized her pivotal role in shaping policies and programs that benefited the people of Bayelsa, noting that her passing leaves a void that will be challenging to fill.
