Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has directed a comprehensive autopsy to ascertain the precise cause of death of his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 60.
The governor made this announcement while receiving former President Goodluck Jonathan, who paid a condolence visit to the Government House in Yenagoa. Governor Diri appealed to the public and media to avoid baseless speculation and refrain from politicizing the tragedy, urging for respect and restraint on social media as the state enters a period of official mourning.
As part of the state’s response, Governor Diri declared a three-day mourning period and paid tribute to the late deputy governor, describing him as a dedicated public servant who served Bayelsa State with unwavering commitment.
In his remarks, former President Jonathan remembered Ewhrudjakpo as a humble, hardworking leader who had been a steadfast supporter of the initiatives undertaken by the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation.
Following the official meeting, Governor Diri and former President Jonathan visited the residence of the deceased’s widow to offer their personal condolences and support to the bereaved family.
