In a historic milestone, the Nigerian Army (NA) has promoted Hajara Egbunu to the rank of Army Warrant Officer (WO), making her the first-ever female soldier from the elite Infantry Corps and the Nigerian Army Women Command (NAWC) to attain this prestigious position.
The promotion ceremony took place on Friday in Abuja, where Mathias Amatso, Commander of the NAWC, formally decorated Egbunu with her new rank.
The rank of Army Warrant Officer is the highest for non-commissioned officers and marks the entry point into the commissioned officer cadre.
Speaking at the event, Amatso praised Egbunu’s exemplary service, noting that her promotion was a result of consistent hard work, dedication, and outstanding performance.
