On April 16, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Adamawa State, Hudu Yunusa, declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani the victor of the state’s governorship election.
The declaration came after the supplementary election on April 15, with results from 10 out of the 20 local government areas declared on that day.
The remaining results were to be announced later, but the REC announced the final outcome an hour before the scheduled time.
Prior to the announcement, the incumbent governor, Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was leading.
Some PDP supporters in the hall protested the REC making the declaration instead of the returning officer.
