The Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Adepoju Emmanuel Abiodun, has arraigned the promoter of Bigibet with his company, Nobelsteed Nigerian Limited, before Justice O.A. Okunuga of the State High Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos.
Abiodun and Nobelsteed Nigerian Limited face a 10-count charge, primarily bordering on stealing and obtaining money under false pretence to the tune of N855 million.
According to the prosecution, the alleged fraud dates back to 2021 when Abiodun reportedly approached the petitioner.
He is accused of introducing Nobelsteed as a company primarily engaged in the gaming (lottery) business and falsely claiming to be raising capital for the venture.
He allegedly urged the petitioner to invest in Nobelsteed’s equity capital, convincing them of his long-standing experience in the industry.
It was further alleged that the petitioner, convinced by Abiodun’s representations, invested and also encouraged others to invest in Nobelsteed.
A total sum of N855,000,000.00 (Eight Hundred and Fifty-Five Million Naira) was reportedly paid into Abiodun’s nominated bank account as a deposit for shares in this purported capital-raising exercise.
However, the EFCC alleged that Abiodun subsequently reneged on his promises and failed to refund the investors.
