Chukwudozie Nwangwu, a well-known native doctor in Anambra State, also referred to as “Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki,” has been released by his abductors one week after his kidnapping. The police spokesperson in the state, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed Nwangwu’s safe return to The Nation.
Nwangwu was abducted on Sunday, July 23, at around 11:30 pm in Oba, Idemili North Local Government Area (LGA) of the state. Tragically, during the kidnapping, two of his personal aides lost their lives.
According to sources close to the victim, the abductors demanded a ransom of N300 million for Nwangwu’s release. In response, his friends and relatives rallied to raise the required funds. However, the abductors requested an additional N50 million, which was also paid before Nwangwu was eventually freed.
Confirming the incident, Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga acknowledged the demands for ransom but denied any knowledge of the specific amount paid by Nwangwu’s family.
“I have information that his abductors have contacted his friends and relatives and are demanding some millions. I also have information that his abductors are demanding some specific amount which I have not gotten the accurate figure,” Ikenga stated.
He further mentioned that speculations pointed to a ransom exceeding two hundred and something million Naira, possibly up to N300 million.
However, he was uncertain whether the payment was made, emphasizing the ongoing efforts to uncover the details behind the incident. (CONTINUE READING HERE)
