Agriculture remains reliable path to creating jobs in Nigeria — Gov Sanwo-Olu

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has emphasised the need for Nigeria to reduce its dependence on oil and focus on agriculture and non-oil exports as the foundation for sustainable economic growth.

Speaking at the First Bank Nigeria Limited Agric and Export Expo 2025, Sanwo-Olu said the true strength of the Nigerian economy lies in the crops cultivated, the goods produced, and the products presented to international markets.

This was contained in a post the governor shared via his X handle, on Tuesday, August 19.

The post reads:

“Today, I spoke at the First Bank Nigeria Limited Agric and Export Expo 2025, where I shared my thoughts on The Fundamentals of Building a Non-Oil Export Driven Economy.

“I am convinced that the Nigeria we want to build cannot depend on oil alone. The true strength of our economy lies in the crops we cultivate, the goods we produce, and the products we can proudly present in international markets.

“Agriculture and non-oil exports remain the most reliable paths to creating jobs, fostering innovation, and securing lasting growth for our people.”
