The death of a 17-year-old vendor named Musa has infuriated young people, who have set portions of Abuja’s well-known Wuse market on fire.
According to reports, several of the vehicles parked in the market’s parking lot as well as the Abuja Markets Management Limited (AMML) office within the market were set on fire.
Information surfaced that a suspect in the market’s mobile court attempted to flee but was allegedly shot and killed by the police.
An AMML top official confirmed the event, pleading for anonymity.
He added that when the suspect was being brought before the court for a different offense, the young man tried to flee and was shot by the police. The culprit had previously been found guilty of an unspecified crime.
According to an AMML official, this is what incited the assailants to set fire to a few stores, the AMML office, and a few cars.
People ran into the market in a stampede to protect their belongings as a result of the circumstance.
The number of injured in the rush remains unknown since some individuals managed to climb the barriers and others forced their way through the few open gates.
Innocent Amaechina, the AMML’s public relations officer, confirmed the fire incident and stated that he was unable to enter the location because police and fire service personnel had sealed it off. [CONTINUE READING HERE]
