Flights were disrupted at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Sunday when a Max Air plane made an emergency landing and skidded off the runway.
The tyre of the aircraft also caught fire, but no injuries were reported, according to the Daily Trust. Sam Hart, a former aide to the Governor of Abia state, confirmed the incident on Twitter, adding that efforts were being made to remove the plane from the tarmac.
The incident caused delays for flights departing from the airport.
Further details about the cause of the emergency landing were not immediately available.
Quoting Hart’s tweet: “Airline (name withheld) had an emergency landing at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. Everyone is fine.
“Flights out of Abuja airport were delayed for hours as arrangements are being made to evacuate the aircraft from the tarmac. Good afternoon.”
