The Osun State Government has demolished about 30 buildings erected on waterways in various parts of the state to avert possible flooding during the rainy season.
The targeted structures, located in swampy areas and along riverbanks, were identified as high-risk zones by environmental authorities.
Confirming the exercise on Sunday, August 10, 2025, Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, Mayowa Adejoorin, said 15 buildings were removed in Osogbo, six in Ile-Ife, six in Ilesa, and others in different towns.
He explained that the action followed repeated warnings and eviction notices issued to affected property owners who failed to comply.
Adejoorin noted that the demolition is part of a broader flood prevention strategy, which also includes dredging waterways and clearing refuse.
He assured residents that with these proactive measures, the state is unlikely to experience severe flooding this year, while urging the public to stop dumping waste in water channels and obey environmental regulations.
