43-Year-Old Man Arrested For R@ping 4-Year-Old Girl In Benue State

In a harrowing incident that has shocked the community, a 43-year-old man identified as Dantata Bawa has been arrested for allegedly raping a four-year-old girl in the North Bank area of Makurdi, Benue State. The disturbing incident took place on Monday, July 24, 2023.

According to an eyewitness, the suspect reportedly lured the innocent child into his room when her mother was away.

The little girl’s cries alerted concerned neighbors who quickly rushed to her aid. They forced open the door and immediately alerted the police, leading to the arrest of the accused.

The suspect is currently in custody at the Police headquarters in Makurdi, as investigations into the horrific crime continue. The Coordinator of Benue Coalition of Human Rights Protection, Jimmie Adzenda, expressed deep concern about the increasing cases of rape in the state.

His organization has taken up the case and is committed to ensuring that it is prosecuted to a logical conclusion, with the perpetrator appropriately punished to set an example and serve as a deterrent to others.

Mr. Adzenda called on various stakeholders, including civil society organizations, security agencies, the media, the Nigerian Bar Association, and FIDA (International Federation of Women Lawyers), to be more proactive in safeguarding the rights of women and children.

The spokesperson of the State Police Command, Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident and assured the public that the suspect will face the full force of the law, emphasizing that he will be charged to court soon.
