35-Year-Old Habitual Rãpist Arrested in Adamawa State For Assaulting Minors

The Adamawa State Police Command has apprehended a 35-year-old habitual rapist, identified as Wilson Sunday, for allegedly raping five minors aged between eight and fourteen in Bachure, Yola North Local Government Area.

According to a statement released by the police spokesperson, SP Yahaya Nguroje, the suspect, who resides in Damilu, Yola North, committed the heinous acts from January 2023 onwards.

Nguroje revealed that the suspect would lure the victims into uncompleted buildings, away from public view, taking advantage of them while they were en route to or returning from school.

The police spokesperson added that the parents of the victims reported the incidents to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Kofare, having observed the suspect’s unrepentant behavior.

“Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspect is a father of two and currently living alone after separating from his wife. Further investigations have also uncovered that the accused has previously been convicted of a similar offense,” stated Nguroje. He further mentioned that the Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola, expressed deep concern over the unfortunate incidents and instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to assume control of the investigation and ensure diligent prosecution.

In a related development, the police in the state have also apprehended 22-year-old Raphael Peter, a resident of Bulabuli in Michika Local Government, for the rape of an 18-year-old student.

Nguroje urged the public, especially parents, to remain vigilant and watchful over their children in order to protect them from criminal-minded individuals who are prowling the streets seeking victims. He also appealed to the general public, particularly parents, to support the command’s efforts in combating all forms of Gender-Based Violence (GBV). The police spokesperson assured that perpetrators of such crimes would be prosecuted in accordance with the prevailing laws.
