Mukhtar Shagari, the former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has disclosed that he declined the offer to become the vice presidential candidate to the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.
The PDP chieftain also during the interview by the newsmen on Tuesday also revealed reason he declined the offer.
He went further to revealed that his decision to decline the offer was propelled by the fact that the Labour Party representatives who contacted him for the offer were unable to give a reasonable answer when he asked them how many members of the Labour Party held major positions in Sokoto State.
According to him “I was one of the first people the Labour Party contacted if I would like to be the Vice Presidential candidate to Peter Obi. But at the end of the day, I told them that I will not be able to leave my party.
“Because I believe in the philosophy of my party. I believe in what my party stands for in Nigeria and I also believe that the Labour Party will not be able to defeat my party in any election.”
